One of the most significant hurdles is normalizing and understanding what to expect, what are common and normal symptoms/experiences in early recovery (the first year), and dispelling the myths that lead to unrealistic expectations. This program will review Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) in detail, outline and explore the specific skills to manage the common symptoms, review the common symptom progression and remission cycle, and define realistic expectations of the recovery journey.

Course Objectives:

After completing this continuing education activity, participants will be able to:

  • Review and understand the 6 PAWS symptoms

  • Gain insight into realistic expectations for the early Recovering Client

  • Focus on the primary catalyst of PAWS: Stress Sensitivity, its components, and its impact
