Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

Course Description: This course will describe and explain the presentation of people who have Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and the effects of this disorder throughout the lifespan. Many people on this spectrum are referred from all systems that include but are not limited to intellectual disabilities, mental health, drug and alcohol, autism services, juvenile justice, and the prison system.

Course Objectives:

  • To develop an understanding of screening items and diagnostics of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
  • To review and explore 10 effects on development in the areas of learning, communication, and behavioral health. 
  • To introduce 6 strategies that are effective for people on the spectrum for both behavioral support and for therapeutic modalities. 
  • Review electronic handouts of 3 resources available to assist clinicians with screening for FASD.
