Trauma Informed Care: An Ethical Overview

Course Description: This training provides a general understanding and review of trauma and the importance of having a trauma-informed practice. The participant will learn how to define and classify various forms of trauma including what symptomology to look for when working with clients, and ways to avoid and prevent re-traumatization.

This training outlines best practices and the ethical need of being a trauma-informed healthcare provider for the safety of both patients and practitioners alike. 

Course Objectives:

After completing this continuing education activity, participants will be able to:

  • List four classifications of trauma.
  • Identify six guiding principles of Trauma Informed Care (TIC).
  • Understand the expected four key R’s in a trauma-informed approach.
  • Identify four prevention strategies to avoid retraumatization.
  • Define vicarious trauma and be able to identify warning signs.
