Course Description:

This training provides a detailed understanding of how divorce and marital separation signify increased risk of suicide among their married counterparts. This training will provide the understanding of how other factors such as gender, age, culture and mental health also present as variables associated with the risk of suicide in divorce. The training aims to provide awareness to gaps in the literature focusing on the recency of divorce and if recency of divorce is significant variable in measuring the risk of suicide in divorced individuals. The presentation further aims to focus upon the risk of suicide of children of divorced parents, and the mental health implications they may face. The training aims to provide clinicians with the awareness of the at risk population of divorced individuals while including the other variables mentioned that also promote risk of suicide

Course Objectives: 

After completing this continuing education activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 1-2 reasons why divorced and maritally disrupted pose a greater risk of suicide

  • Identify 1-2 ways how age, sex, culture and mental health play a role in suicide risk among divorce/marital disruption

  • Identify 1-2 ways gender has an impact on suicide risk

  • Identify 1-2 ways on how mental health affects men and women of divorce and how this implicates risk of suicide

  • Identify 1-2 ways children of divorced parents are impacted with regards to mental health/suicide

  • Identify the major implication for future trainings that this presentation proposes.

  • Identify 2-3 more implications for future trainings and gaps that present in the literature.
